Enjoy arts, crafts, food, music and fun at the 29th annual Filberg Festival July 29 to Aug. 1, 2011.

Since its beginnings 29 years ago, the principal objective of the

Filberg Festival has been to encourage excellence

in all forms of arts and crafts, and to assist in the promotion and sale of quality work.

The 2011 Festival is once again living up to its objective and will play host to 130 artisans and makers of fine art in a variety of media ranging from metalwork, pottery, toys, woodcrafts, jewelry, paintings, glass, textiles and specialty foods.

This year’s guest artist is Coral May Barclay, a Northwest Coast landscape painter, who will be showcasing her oil paintings of light and colour in the Filberg Heritage Lodge during the festival.

For more about her, visit www.coralmaybarclay.com.

The BC Day long weekend’s entertainment lineup includes: Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, Eric Bibb, James Keelaghan, Lunch At Allen’s, Michael Kaeshammer, Stacey Earle and Mark Stuart.

New for 2011 is the Sip & Bid. Enjoy hand-crafted wines and beer from local Vancouver Island wineries and breweries while having an opportunity to bid on original paintings by MONK, Marion Webber and Brett Varney, Mary Fox pottery, and more.

Gate admission is charged at the Filberg Festival, as it is the primary fundraiser for the not-for-profit organization, which has the responsibility of repairing and maintaining the Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park’s property and buildings.

Advance tickets will be available June 11 at all Vancouver Island Thrifty Foods locations and online at www.filbergfestival.com. Three-day passes are also available.

Shuttle service will be provided by Ambassador Shuttle Service to and from the festival and the new Park and Ride location at

Brooklyn Elementary School.

To make this Festival a reality, it takes the support of the community, which includes more than 300 volunteers, the Town of Comox and organizations such as Thrifty Foods, A Vancouver Island, the Comox Valley Record, Torry and Sons Plumbing and Heating Ltd., Pacific Audio Works and Garf Baxandall Ford Courtenay.
