The Pearl Ellis Gallery is announcing its upcoming juried group show, Art with Impact, set for July 23 to Aug. 17.

The Pearl, located at 1729 Comox Ave, Comox, invites art enthusiasts to explore a diverse range of artwork that promises to leave a lasting impression.

Art with Impact is an evocative exhibition that features artists from varied backgrounds and disciplines, each interpreting the theme in unique and compelling ways. This showcase highlights pieces that resonate deeply through media, scale, or subject matter, pushing the boundaries of traditional art forms to inspire change, provoke emotions, and challenge perceptions.

Among the notable works on display is Lesley Watts’ Zombella, a figurative painting that quietly yet powerfully catches the viewer off guard.

“This painting is inspired by a photo I took some years ago at the end of the Zombie Walk in Vancouver,” says Watts. “The figure is seated near the entrance of the old Vancouver Courthouse and the background’s rather apocalyptic stance is a reflection of all that is going amok in our world. I love everything about how this young woman occupies space. Most importantly, she is linked to the medieval tradition of the court jester, one who speaks truths that the rulers do not want to hear.”

Visitors to The Pearl can expect a compelling array of artwork addressing personal, societal, and global issues, each piece crafted to make a significant impact. The gallery, open from Tuesday to Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., provides a serene setting for viewers to reflect on the powerful themes presented in the show.

The exhibition will kick off with an opening reception on Saturday, July 27, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. This event offers an opportunity to meet the artists and gain insights into their creative processes while enjoying light refreshments.
