A special screening of “Seagrass”, an award-winning film set on Vancouver and Gabriola Islands, will be presented at the Landmark Cinemas in Courtenay at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 9.
“Seagrass” follows the story of Judith, a woman who is at a family retreat with her husband Steve and their children following the death of her mother. Judith and Steve are coping with tensions in their marriage arising from their status as an interracial couple.
The film, which premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, is the debut feature by director Meredith Hama-Brown. The acclaimed film has received several awards, including the 2023 Vancouver Film Critics Circle awards for Best BC Film and Best BC Director.
The screening, a co-presentation of the Comox Valley International Film Festival and the Comox Valley Art Gallery, is designed to whet film-lovers’ appetites in advance of this year’s CVIFF festival from April 3 to 6.
Tickets for “Seagrass” are $15 plus taxes and fees. They can be purchased in advance online at . If seats are available, $15 tickets can also be purchased at the theatre half an hour before the screening.
