Zany brand of science comes to Courtenay

As part of the province’s Year of Science activities, Science World British Columbia is bringing its zany brand of science to Courtenay for a Night of Family Science on April 7.

The Night of Family Science, a free family event, features spectacular live science shows from Science World’s professional demonstration team. Visitors can create and take home simple science projects at the make-and-take stations or experience science phenomenon first-hand by spinning like a figure skater and other fun science activities. Budding engineers will have the opportunity to test their paper airplane creation skills at the Iron Science competition.

The event tomorrow evening happens at Mark R. Isfeld Secondary School, 1551 Lerwick Rd., Courtenay, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Event organizer and popular Science World presenter Brian Anderson is pleased to be able to bring the fun back to his hometown of Courtenay as part of the Year of Science programming.

“Through the Year of Science, the B.C. government wants to help raise the level of science awareness and skills in our province,” said Minister of Science and Universities Ida Chong. “These innovative community programs organized by Science World will help British Columbians discover that science is not only fun but important to our health and well-being, our lifestyle and our future.”

Science World British Columbia is a charitable non-profit organization which engages British Columbians in science and inspires future science and technology leadership throughout our province.

The Year of Science is a school year program to showcase how science works, who scientists are, the kinds of work they do, why science matters to our everyday lives and our communities, and how young people can have an exciting career in those fields.
