Many people have childhood memories of dressing up to take part in a nativity play! Do you remember trying on costumes and preparing lines? Perhaps you were a sheep – a shepherd – or even the Christmas star!
In hope of creating new memories while presenting the good news of the birth of Jesus, St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Comox is inviting all children who attend its 6 p.m. Christmas Eve service to dress-up and take part in a nativity play. While the main roles will be cast and rehearsed ahead of time, any child who wishes to take part is invited to be an angel or shepherd as the Christmas story is presented. Simple costumes are provided – plan to arrive by 5:45 to get ready. The 6 p.m. Service will also feature carol singing and a drama in place of a sermon making this service accessible to many families with children.
The 4 p.m. service will centre around themes of the crèche and light. A liturgical dance and a solo of O Holy Night will be highlights. This service will be one hour in length, allowing people to come and worship before dinner or other evening plans.
The late-night service begins at 10:30 p.m. featuring light coming into the darkness. As the service proceeds, each person will have the opportunity to light a candle. This traditional late-night service will feature the singing of favourite carols as the good news of the coming of Christ is proclaimed!
On Christmas Day, a traditional service will be held at 10 a.m. with carols and communion.
