YANA stands for You Are Not Alone.
Those words sprang to life recently.
The 375 people who attended YANA鈥檚 dinner auction, the sponsors, the donors and the buyers came together in a magical way with a record-breaking total of $57,000. In addition, presentations were made from our business community totalling $35,000.
YANA appreciates these donations from Harmony Dyck and the Calendar Girls (12 local realtors), Bodynetix along with Derek Rice from Rice Toyota and Pete Montana from JET-FM, Dave Procter and his team from ReMax and the Comox Fire Department.
The donors of hundreds of auction items and services to make the event possible came forward in an incredibly generous way.
Although some tears were shed during the evening, there was laughter, joy and a real feeling of being part of a community that is so supportive of our families dealing with childhood illnesses. Although YANA is run by a dedicated board of directors and hard-working executive director Anita Brassard, none of it would be possible without the donations, big and small, at this event and throughout the year.
"What a tribute to Sandra Williams, who had a vision 25 years ago and aptly named it YANA. She鈥檇 be proud today knowing how the Comox Valley has continued to support her creation," YANA said in a news release.
YANA rents several apartments near health-care facilities in Vancouver and makes them available to families living in School District 71 that have children needing extended out-of-town medical care.
