Plan to take part in the 12th annual Seedy Saturday this weekend, from 10 to 3 p.m. at the Florence Filberg Centre in downtown Courtenay.

Everything from certified organic seeds to herbs, garden furniture and fencing, orchids and landscaping services is here. If you need gardening advice, the exhibitors will be more than happy to advise you.

Five free presentations and a drop-in Garden Panel will help you plan your best garden ever.

• Building Healthy Soil with Duchess of Dirt Leslie Cox, 11:30-12:30;

• Seed Saving with Dan Jason, author and owner of Salt Spring Seeds, 12:40-1:40;

• Four Keys to Smart Gardening with Linda Gilkeson, author and scientist, 12:40-1:40;

• Zero-Mile Diet with Carolyn Herriot, author and owner of Seeds of Victoria, 1:50-2:50;

• Mason Bees with Larry Church, local mason bee entrepreneur, 1:50-2:50.

Bring your gardening questions to the Evergreen Lounge from 10 to 11:20 a.m. Three knowledgeable advisers will take your questions:

Megan Halstead of Halstead Farm is a vegetable and edible flower grower and an agricultural consultant, with a BSc from UBC in Agroecology. Ask her about composting, soil building and cultivation.

Jonathan Schut is the owner of Budding Landscapes and has studied Ecological Gardening at Linnaea Farm on Cortes Island. He has expertise in permaculture, edible landscaping and mushroom cultivation.

Becci Russell of Stone Tree Cottage & Gardens is a former nursery owner who operates a B&B in Courtenay. Ask her about propagation, trees and creating beautiful landscapes.

Over 100 volunteers will be donating their time to make this event happen.

The Guthrie family, for the 12th year, will conduct the all-important local seed exchange and sale from 10 a.m. on. Come early for the best selection of CVGSS member-grown seeds at $1 per package.

Sponsors EatMore Sprouts, Quality Foods (Comox), SeaSoil, Edible Island Whole Foods Market, Little Orca Bakery, Black Creek Farm & Feed, Mud Sharks Coffee Bar, Best Western Westerly Hotel, Portuguese Joe’s Fish Market and Speedy Printing Centre make it possible.
