Courtenay Recreation’s The LINC Youth Centre is encouraging you to come and celebrate youth in our community during B.C. Youth Week, May 1 to 7.

Youth Week is an international celebration recognizing the value, diversity and positive contributions youth make to their community.

The LINC Youth Centre staff and Youth Council are gearing up to host their first annual Block Party on May 7.

“We work with some pretty exceptional youth and want to offer them an opportunity to showcase their talents,” states Kathy Collins, Youth Services co-ordinator.

As part of the festivities this year, there will be the First Annual Audio Clash, where youth acoustic musicians and bands will get a chance to battle it out for prizes. Also taking place on this day is the Second Annual Young Ones vs. Old Ones Floor Hockey Tournament. Youth will take on adults in the community for prizes and bragging rights.

Youth Council will operate a barbecue, Bouncerama Jousting and Bungee run will be there, and participants are also encouraged to test their WorksafeBC knowledge on the wheel of fun.

A special thank-you to Vancouver Island MusicFest, Cumberland Village Works, Village Quirks, Happy’s Source for Sports, WorksafeBC and Sogoactive for helping make this event extra special this year. Be sure to come down and cheer on the youth in this one-of-a-kind celebration.
