A Vancouver Islander will be sharing stories of a recent ecumenical witness pilgrimage to the West Bank in Palestine.
Linda Taffs is a human rights activist who recently travelled to Palestine. She will be sharing her experiences at Weird Church in Cumberland on Jan. 10. The event starts at 7 p.m.
Taffs says her journey was motivated by "frustration over Canada’s ongoing arms sales to Israel and the lack of governmental action against the ongoing genocide."
A release for the event says that "her firsthand experiences offer a unique perspective on the urgent need for Canadians to pressure the government to end weapons permits and demand a ceasefire."
Taffis is a resident of Parksville, and is a Quaker who has worked towards advocating for peace and justice. She serves as the Clerk of the Quaker Israel Palestine Working Group and is a member of the ecumenical group Canada Stand Up for Palestinian Children’s Rights. Linda’s commitment to Palestinian human rights was ignited during a trip to Iraq in 1999 and has since grown through her active involvement in global and local advocacy. Her recent pilgrimage to Israel and Palestine deepened her resolve to promote compassionate action and justice for all.
