Knights of the Easel exhibit

DAVID NETTERVILLE is one of the Knights of the Easel, who will exhibit their artwork until May 16 at the Pearl Ellis Gallery in Comox.

The Knights of the Easel, the group of artists who study with Teresa Knight, are presenting an exhibition of their works until May 16 at the Pearl Ellis Gallery in Comox at 1729 Comox Avenue, lower level.

This will be an interesting exhibition of paintings by local artists/students who are just gaining their momentum. The opening reception this Saturday from 1 to 4 will provide refreshments, and an opportunity to meet all the artists, and discuss with them their works and their artistic journeys.

Students will be showcasing their works, which comprise a wide variety of beautiful paintings, from Ariel Furse’s prairie combine harvesters, Nadia Yelamo’s powerful “Horse in the Sea Foam” to Jan Elman’s delightful “Filberg Festival” and many others.

While you may indeed get a bargain on a work by a future Picasso, another point of interest in the show is to see the progression that each artist follows, from just starting out, to finding their own personal style.

Knight's instruction encourages each artist to follow their own vision and inclinations, so no two individuals in the show paint alike.  Once basics, including colour and composition, tone and perspective, have been grasped, students explore their own creativity and their individual directions with help from their teacher.

You will be able to recognize paintings from all stages of artistic development in this exhibition, as some of the group are quite new to painting, while others have returned to painting after a hiatus or have continuously painted, but are interested in learning new techniques or working with new materials. Longer-term students are well on their way to being artists in their own right.
