Six residents from Glacier View Lodge floated down the Puntledge River in Courtenay on Friday, compliments of Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue.
They spent about an hour on the water, floating from Condensory Bridge to the Airpark.
“We had Glacier View contact us, asking if we were open to taking some of their more robust residents tubing,” said Mike Bryan, water team co-ordinator. “It was something a bunch of them had on their bucket list.”
This type of river trip was a first for CVGSAR.
“It’s pretty exciting to be able to help, and get people something on their bucket list,” Bryan said.
They used double tubes to carry a resident and caregiver. Search and Rescue volunteers were on kayaks, paddleboards and a power boat, parked at the 5th Street Bridge.
