Each Christmas Glacier View Lodge illuminates a tower of lights to shine over the Comox Valley.

The lights are a visual representation of respect and remembrance of the many people whose lives have been touched by the services at the Lodge.

Glacier View Lodge is a non-profit long-term care home operated by Glacier View Lodge Society (GVLS). It provides private rooms to 101 Comox residents, as well as an adult day program for 75 community clients, a respite bed, community bathing, and caregiver education. Operating funding through the health authority allows GVLS to provide care. It is the generous community donors that help the society provide resident quality of life initiatives.

The Legacy of Light (formerly the Book of Lights) campaign brings awareness to projects that will give a legacy of comfort to current and future Lodge residents. The Soroptimist International of Courtenay has supported this initiative over the past 37 years.

Previous successful Legacy of Light initiatives have included a new bus with a wheelchair ramp, new curtains in the resident rooms, and interior redesign projects for the 40+ year-old building on Back Road.

This year GVLS is raising funds for quality-of-life projects that will continue to make Glacier View Lodge feel like home. These are the initiatives that the society does not receive funding for, such as gardening, special events and celebrations, recreation technology, community outings, live entertainment, and more.

The community is urged to support the Legacy of Light fund with a $20 purchase of a light or lights in memory or honour of someone you loved. Each purchase of a light represents a light and legacy on our tower.

“When you look up at night at our lights on the mountain, we invite you to think of the people in your life who have contributed to the amazing community we live in and consider making a donation to the Lodge in their honour or memory,” reads a press release.
