Where can you buy a piece of unique handmade silver-and-gem jewelry, or let your young son or daughter 鈥渂uild a dinosaur鈥� or creation of their imagination from stones and driftwood?

You can even view a soapstone carving, and everyone can look at and maybe buy rocks and minerals, gems and fossils from all over the world and also from your own back yard.

You don鈥檛 have leave town 鈥� it鈥檚 coming to you at the Courtenay and Parksville and District Gem and Mineral Show at the Royal Canadian Legion Upper Hall in Courtenay Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, May 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The cost is $2 at the door and children under 12 are free with an adult. That also entitles everyone to try to win the hourly draw for a door prize (prizes awarded to adults and children).

If your daughter or son is asking you more questions about dinosaurs and fossils than you have answers for, come ask an expert who will demonstrate how to get the fossil out of the stone and is informed as to what is here to be found.

If you and your family have always wanted to join a rock club and go on field trips and also have bragging rights about what you find on your vacations, come meet those who consider kicking stones (and picking them up) an active hobby.

If someone in your house complains that family members leave pebbles in the pockets of their jeans that end up in the washing machine, you will be in good company.

This group has rocks everywhere 鈥� in pockets, in back yards, in living rooms, gardens and, some might say, in their heads. If anyone is grounded, it is a rock collector.
