The Beaufort Watershed Stewards (BWS) and the Fanny Bay Community Association are presenting a town hall meeting to discuss local water issues.

“Water continues to be a hot topic in the community, in the province and, really, worldwide,” said Lise Laguë of the BWS, in a press release. “Our hope is that this town hall on water will give a deeper understanding of some water basics.”

The meeting will feature two guest speakers.

Pat Lapcevic is section head of water protection in the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development. She will lay the groundwork for an understanding of aquifers and watersheds.

William Shulba is a freshwater geoscientist working as senior freshwater specialist for the Islands Trust. He will be discussing the geological underpinnings specific to the area.

Both are knowledgeable and engaging speakers. Additionally, Jennifer Sutherst is a professional biologist and estuary co-ordinator with Project Watershed who will be facilitating group discussions that will follow the two presentations.

The event takes place at the Fanny Bay Hall, 7793 Island Highway, on Sunday, April 7, from 2-4 p.m. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Donations are gratefully accepted. For more information go to
