Comox Valley’s first baby of 2024 born on Jan. 2 at Comox Valley Hospital

Eliza Mei Wilson claims the title of Comox Valley’s first newborn of 2024, according to Island Health.

Coming into this world at 6:18 a.m. on Jan. 2, Eliza was born at North Island Hospital Comox Valley, weighing a healthy seven pounds and nine ounces.

Parents Rachel Liang and Ryan Wilson have now returned home, welcoming the newest addition to their family.

“We are so grateful and so happy,” said Ryan. “Obviously, both of us are quite tired but it’s nothing but pure joy and happiness right now.”

Ferguson (Gus) Kenneth Ouellet Mitchell, born at Victoria General Hospital at 2:06 a.m. on Jan. 1, is Vancouver Island’s first baby of 2024.

British Columbia’s first baby was born exactly at midnight, at New Westminster’s Royal Columbian Hospital.

Parents Julia Goryn and Travis Stutsky were proud to welcome their daughter, Taylor, weighing in at six pounds and 14 ounces.
