The Robotics71 teams successfully executed another remarkable event at the recent VEX Robotics tournament at Claremont Secondary in Saanich.
The competition saw intense battles, highlighted by a few unexpected outcomes. Notably, School District 71’s leading team, 7842A, suffered a defeat during the elimination rounds to an eighth-ranked alliance from Shawnigan Lake.
Team 7842P delivered a suspenseful performance, tying with their opponents in the quarter-finals before clinching a victory in the rematch. This triumph secured the second-place tournament finalists trophy for them and their Claremont alliance partners.
Team 7842X, in alliance with Shawnigan Lake, captured the first-place tournament championship trophy.
In the judged categories, Team 7842A earned the Design Award, Team 7842F received the Amaze Award, and 7842X took home the Build Award. In total, SD71 teams brought back five trophies, capping off a lengthy yet fulfilling day in Victoria.
Special thanks are extended to the hosts at Claremont Secondary School, as well as to numerous sponsors, parents, bus drivers, judges, referees, and event coordinators, all of whom played crucial roles in the success of this competition. The next tournament is slated for Feb. 10 on Saltspring Island.
