Do you struggle doing your taxes?

Are you considered in the ‘modest income’ bracket?

Volunteers are getting ready to file income tax returns for free for individuals and families who have modest income and simple returns.

(Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), as a guideline, says that modest income includes individuals earning less than $35,000 and couples below $45,000, plus $2,500 for each additional dependent in a family.)

These free tax clinics are sponsored by the Comox Valley Lions Cub and will be held every Tuesday afternoon from 1-3 p.m., from March 5 until April 30 inclusive, at the Lions Den located below the Comox Museum/Pearl Ellis Gallery, at 1729 Comox Ave. These free tax clinics serve a wide variety of clients including seniors, students, newcomers, Indigenous people, persons with disabilities, and persons who are receiving social assistance or who are housing insecure.

Volunteers at the tax clinic will meet with the clients (first come first served), prepare and file an income tax return for them on the spot, and then give them a printed confirmation that CRA has received their return. Alternately, clients can prepare information and authorization forms that allow volunteers to prepare and file the return on their behalf – then return a week later to retrieve their forms and their CRA filing confirmation.

For more information on this free tax filing service, call the Lions Den in Comox on Tuesday afternoons (starting March 5) at 250-339-6232.

For the health of the volunteers and the other clients, please do not attend a free tax clinic on a day when you are symptomatic with illness.
