Have you ever swam from Cortes and Quadra Island? Carrie Saxifrage has. Saxifrage - an author, nurse, lawyer and environmental advocate - will speak on her journey of centring her life around nature on Saturday, Apr. 6 at 2 p.m. at t Comox United Church.

Her book, The Big Swim, recounts the adventures, realizations, and personal changes that help her grapple with climate change.

The question remains open: How do we choose to live on the current climate trajectory? Come hear book excerpts, new perspectives and current takes on the climate situation. A discussion will follow.

Post-death options?

Are there better environmental options than cremation or traditional burial after death? Krista Manuel (funeral director and death doula) will present an overview of B.C.’s current options and general costs for disposition of the deceased on Tuesday, Apr. 23 at 7 p.m., also at Comox United Church.

Options not available in B.C. that are available in other provinces and in the USA will also be covered. The timeline of natural organic reduction (human composting) from its beginning stages to today will be included.

Both of these events are hosted by SAGE (Sustainability Action Group for the Environment) and the Comox Valley Unitarian Justice Action Team.

Both events will be at Comox United Church, 250 Beach Dr., Comox, but neither are religious in any way. These are free, but donations gratefully received at the door.
