Forty-eight years!
That’s the number of Telethons and the number of years the Comox Valley Child Development Association has been holding its annual fundraiser, the CVCDA Annual Children’s Telethon.
As all of the many details come together in planning the Telethon, the excitement builds. This year is no different. Nov. 5 is approaching quickly and the response from donors has been outstanding.
Businesses in the community have provided a wide selection of fantastic donations to the silent auction which is live right now along with our 50/50 prize draw. A new addition will be a raffle draw for prize baskets available to Telethon goers who attend this year. The entertainment lineup includes talent from all over the Comox Valley and Fred Penner will return to delight the Telethon audience.
In addition to the spectacular performance line-up, there will be lots of activities for kids and families to add to the fun. Buddy the Mascot will return with a name, thanks to the children who picked a name at last year’s Telethon. Face painting, popcorn and selfie stations and more will keep all Telethon goers entertained. From noon to 8 p.m. on Nov. 5 the Sid Williams Theatre will be packed with kids and families helping the CVCDA raise funds to support the work they do in the community.
“Having a community come together for a common cause is an unbelievable phenomenon,” said CVCDA executive director, Cindy Xavier. “In a time where there are so many added pressures for businesses and donors, it is humbling to be on the receiving end of such incredible generosity. Our agency relies on the annual Children’s Telethon to bridge the funding gap and support needs of our kids and families in the Comox Valley. Each year, we put funds towards a needed project. This year, we continue to work towards a new therapy building, which will provide the space we need to provide these important services to our community. Everyone makes a difference!”
