Ballroom dance Sunday at Courtenay Legion

IREK PAYKART and Zofia are still dancing after 40 years together.

Ballroom dancing — fuelled by recent TV programs which put well-known names through their dance paces — is experiencing a renaissance all over the world.

On April 17, d’Esterre Brain Boosters presents a Sunday afternoon dance at the upper Courtenay Legion, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Unlike most tea dances, every Brain Booster program has a learning component.

One hour of the three-hour dance will be devoted to teaching rumba, a slow, romantic Latin dance that may be danced to many slow songs, and perhaps the easiest of all Latin dances to learn.

Campbell River instructor Irek Paykart and partner Zofia met on the dance floor during their study for a master degree in education in Poland. They won many dance competitions, and 40 years later they are still dancing.

For more information about their programs, visit www.ballroomdanceincampbellriver.blogspot.com.

For $5 until April 15, you can take advantage of this offer by registering with Arabella at arabella888@gmail.com or call 250-941-8885. It will be $8 at the door on April 17.

Ask about the Brain Booster dance on May 1.
