The Comox Valley and District Branch of the BC SPCA invites you to an animal-themed day of fun this Saturday.

The event, presented by Hill鈥檚 Science Diet, takes place from 10 to 2 p.m. at the Comox Valley SPCA at 1668 Ryan Road.

In addition to featuring pets looking for loving homes, activities at the Comox Valley SPCA Open House will include education displays, some silent auction items and an 鈥榦ral health care for pets鈥� booth. There will also be door prizes and a book, plant and bake sale.

Hill鈥檚 Science Diet is partnering with BC SPCA branches across the province to promote adoption of homeless animals during Be Kind to Animals month in May.

鈥淭he open house series is an opportunity for people to meet the animals available for adoption and to have fun learning more about how to help animals in the community,鈥� says Lorie Chortyk, general manager of community relations for the BC SPCA.  鈥淲e are extremely grateful to Hill鈥檚 for sponsoring this series to showcase the wonderful animals we have for adoption.鈥�

Hill鈥檚 donates free food for all dogs, cats, puppies and kittens in BC SPCA branches across the province to ensure that the animals receive a high quality and consistent pet food. The program promotes the health of shelter animals, making them more adoptable and enables animals to be transferred between shelters without suffering any ill effects from changing pet food.

Hill鈥檚 also gives a free 3.5- to five-pound bag of Science Diet to new pet guardians with every BC SPCA cat or dog adoption along with The Guide for Lifelong Health.

The BC SPCA adopts more than 18,000 animals each year through its 37 branches.
