More than 450 students from kindergarten to Grade 12 at 13 SD71 schools participated in the second annual Inquiry Fair in May at Lake Trail Middle School. Presentations were as varied as those who created them. Students saw virtual reality demonstrations, hands on demonstrations, and an outdoor classroom.

There were also performances by a drumming group from Queneesh Elementary, and by Vanier’s Destination Imagination team, which entertained the audience with their spontaneous creativity and wit.

This team finished fifth in the world at the Destination Imagination Global Finals in Knoxville, Tenn.

The Inquiry Fair features presentations of work students have done driven by a question of their choosing.

Topics are of a personal interest, the students drive their own research and discovery, and present their process to a public audience.

“This is a great showcase of learning and wonderful dedication to what matters,” said curriculum support teacher Debbie Nelson.

“The projects were diverse, and the energy was high, but the best part about these events is the one-on-one conversations that you have with individual students,” co-ordinator and teacher Andrew Ferneyhough said.

“They never cease to impress me with the astuteness of their observations and the passion with which they speak.”
