A 240-kilometre journey in honour of Boomer

Since 2008, hundreds of cyclists have taken part in this emotional 240-kilometre journey of honour, awareness and commitment.

The ride begins at the gravesite of Andrew (Boomer) Eykelenboom in Courtenay, then takes participants through some of Vancouver Island’s most beautiful scenery before ending on the grounds of the B.C. legislature.

Through their commitment to join, and raise a minimum of $300, riders will be supporting Boomer’s Legacy and the humanitarian projects it funds, through our soldiers, to help men, women and especially children in war-torn areas of Afghanistan. Your sweat and effort will make a difference.

Boomer’s Ride also serves to honour all of our fallen soldiers who have given their lives for freedom in Afghanistan, and the bike of each rider will be adorned with a picture and bio of two fallen soldiers.

Riders will meet many other extraordinary people. They will eat, sleep, sweat, laugh and ride side by side. The experience promises to have a profound impact on the lives of each and every participant.

The cyclist registration fee is $150. Fees include jersey, meals, accommodation, snacks, support vehicles, and transportation.

Boomer’s Legacy began after Cpl. Andrew (Boomer) Eykelenboom of Comox was killed by a suicide bomber in Spin Boldak, Afghanistan, on Aug. 11, 2006.

Eykelenboom was a dedicated soldier and a medic who went to save lives and help the people of Afghanistan realize freedom. While on “tour,” he was struck by the absolute poverty most endured.

His death was the catalyst that started the foundation. Through personal acts of kindness and compassion, our soldiers make a positive difference in the lives of many, and especially women and children. The dollars raised by Boomer’s Legacy give our soldiers access to funds to continue making a difference wherever they are deployed, recognizing all of our military members fallen and serving.
