While its largest, most-recent and much-talked-about acquisition won鈥檛 be on display, the BC Aviation Museum is poised to give visitors鈥� imaginations flight with its annual open house this weekend.
The Hawaii Mars water bomber dominated headlines with its recent final flight, however, it awaits a move across Victoria International Airport lands before resting at the museum鈥檚 Norseman Road venue, likely after the open house Aug. 17 and 18.
The museum itself is already home to a plethora of vintage aircraft crammed into two hangars including the Lancaster bomber FM104 鈥� a war plane built in Toronto in 1944 鈥� on display in the restoration hangar.
On Saturday, visitors can see the RCMP Aerospatiale AS-350 helicopter.
For more than three decades the museum has offered interactive up-close encounters with aircraft.
Considered the largest fundraiser of the year for the non-profit, the open house traditionally includes activities such as games, face painting and the chance to sit in the cockpit of planes, big and small. It also boasts a selection of food truck options.
The BC Aviation Museum open house, at 1910 Norseman Rd., is Aug. 17 and 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day with entry by donation.
