Vancouver Island boy returns from Germany with 7 medals.

11-year-old Declan Forcier won 4 goals in World Dwarf Games in Cologne

Declan Forcier travelled across the globe with a handful of goals and he’s coming home with a handful of medals.

Forcier, 11, was one of just 46 athletes to compete for Team Canada at the eighth annual World Dwarf Games July 28-Aug. 5 in Cologne, Germany.

“The kid had big goals going into today’s track and field event, and he smashed them. Quadruple gold,” said proud mom Tammy Isaachsen on the day of Forcier’s epic four-medal haul.

“He placed first in all of his individual events, competing against many strong athletes from Germany, Great Britain, Australia, USA, and more.

Forcier won gold in both the 40m and 60m sprints, as well as gold in the tennis ball and cricket ball throws.

He wasn’t done with just the track and field events though.

Forcier also competed with B.C.’s volleyball, soccer and basketball teams, earning a silver and two bronze medals, respectively, to round out his medal count at seven.

“Declan had a very successful games,” Isaachsen said. “It was an incredible experience for him to compete on a level playing field — and at eye level — with kids of similar stature.

Forcier already has his sights set on the next World Dwarf Games in four years in Australia.

“We’re hoping to do more fundraising and sharing leading up to those games, in an effort to send an even larger Team Canada to those games,” Isaachsen explained. “There’s no government support for the games (which the Dwarf Athletic Association of Canada is hoping to change), so all costs are up to the athletes/families attending and individual fundraising efforts.”
