Women’s hockey made its debut last week at the 55+ B.C. Games in Kimberley and Cranbrook.
The Zone 2 Silver Tsunamis played their hearts and lungs out with just 10 skaters and a goalie. With spirited and hard fought play in every game, the team’s biggest hurdle turned out to be thinner air at the 1,120 metre elevation in Kimberley, which is about 1,120 metres higher than they play on their home ice.
In their first game, the Tsunamis lost 2-0 to the Zone 7 Ice-Agers, who were the eventual silver medalists. Game 2 was a highpoint with a 3-0 win against the Zone 7 Wildcats. In the third game, the team lost 3-0 in a strong battle with the Zone 1 Island Edge, who finished in the bronze medal position.
The Silver Tsunamis built an exceptional camaraderie and friendship. Everyone’s sights are set on making Zone 2 proud at the Kelowna games in 2019.
