Towhees tune up for tourney by scuttling visiting Armada

Home, sweet home helped the G.P. Vanier Towhees post a win, big win Tuesday night.

Playing their first home game of the year, the Towhees thumped the Alberni Armada 94-25 in the first North North Island League AAA senior boys basketball game of the season for both teams.

Brad Gunter led the Vanier scoring with 25 points while Cam Hughes hooped 18 and Dillon Robson added 15.

The game was a good tune-up for the 2011 Towhee Invitational tournament, which got underway yesterday and continues today and tomorrow. The Towhees faced Pacific Christian in their first game Thursday night, with result unavailable at press time.

Play resumes at 9:30 a.m. and the last game tips off at 8 p.m. On Saturday, play resumes at 8:20 a.m. at Vanier with a 9 a.m. game at Highland. Games continue at Vanier through to the championship final at 8 p.m.

Joining the Towhees are defending champs Wellington of Nanaimo, Highland Raiders, Centennial of Coquitlam, Ballenas of Parksville, Timberline of Campbell River, Kwalikum of Qualicum, Pacific Christian of Victoria, New Westminster, Point Grey of Vancouver and King George of Vancouver.
