Skaters excel at Provincial competition

Sixteen people from the Comox Valley Skating Club, including coach Dawn Ladret, seven skaters along with several parents and family members, travelled to Cranbrook last week for the Pacific STARSkate Provincial Figure Skating Championships.

Sixteen people from the Comox Valley Skating Club, including coach Dawn Ladret, seven skaters along with several parents and family members, travelled to Cranbrook last week for the Pacific STARSkate Provincial Figure Skating Championships.

The skaters competed in seven different categories put on strong performances. Meghan Taylor picked up her third consecutive medal in as many Provincial appearances by winning bronze in the Junior Silver Women’s event. Dustin Lucas also won his third Provincial medal, placing second in Junior Bronze men’s.

Rachelle Beauchamp, making her first appearance at Pacific Skate, won the silver medal in the Junior Bronze women’s event. Also competing at their first Provincial championship were Lauren Wigard, Preliminary 10 and under; Jane Schaffahuser, Preliminary 11 and over; Kaya Leslie, Introductory Interpretive; and Peyton Meiers, Juvenile women.

Comox Valley Skating Club wrapped up the winter season this past weekend with 28 skaters in Port McNeill to compete in the Barbara Rasmussen Memorial Championships.
