Seven students from the Courtenay-based Academy of Martial Arts competed in a Brazilian jiu-jitsu competition, Aug. 17 in Richmond. The Jiu-Jitsu Ohana III was held at the Richmond Olympic Oval. It featured single elimination format for adults and masters, and double elimination for kids and juvenile.
Chris 鈥淏ukwas鈥� Anderson won a gold, silver and two bronze medals. Raffael Tonazzi won two golds, Cullen Kendall and Mitch Kirk each won a gold, Akash Nanda won a bronze and Cameron Roe won a pair of bronze medals.
Scott Erikson also competed. Though he didn鈥檛 medal, academy owner Bill Fraser said Erikson lost by very close scores in two exciting matches.
