If you would like to watch live curling at its best, make your way to the Comox Valley Curling Club to view the action as it hosts the B.C. Senior Men’s ̨MM Playdowns this week (Jan. 13-16).

Only four of the 23 teams competing will qualify to move on to the Provincial championship so the action is guaranteed to be exciting and intense. The local economy should enjoy a boost as 14 teams are arriving from the mainland and four from Victoria.

Top contenders include world champion Greg McAulay (2000] and defending B.C. Senior champion Wes Graig. Local rinks putting their best slider foot forward are Marty Duda, the Wayne Harris squad and “gun for hire” Ron Schmidt curling with a crew from Nanaimo.

The action starts at noon Thursday with draws following at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday is a full day with games at 8 a.m., noon, 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday has a 9 a.m. kickoff with games at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday wraps it up with games at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The concession will be open to feed the hungry and beverages are available to quench your thirst

“The CVCC invites all to enjoy our hospitality as these teams work their way through the draw to earn their right to compete for the B.C. championship,” a club spokesperson said. “They may all be over 50 years of age, but will prove they still have game!”

A reminder to Thursday League curlers that scheduled games for Jan. 13 are postponed and will be played at a later date.
