Ringette fundraiser goes Sunday at Sports Centre

Women vs. men. Ringette vs. hockey. These age-old battles will be revisited Sunday, April 3 at 12 p.m. at the Sports Centre Arena No. 1 when the Comox Valley Cougars women's ringette team takes on the Jet FM men's hockey team in a fundraiser event.

Donations and prize money will be going to KidSport and the Comox Valley Ringette Association Masters team. "The cost of organized sports can be a barrier to participation and limit the choices for some families. KidSport works to eliminate the financial barriers to sport participation," an event spokesperson said.

Admission is by donation. There will also be raffle items, a 50/50 draw and a fun ring toss as ways to further support the event.

“There will be a brief explanation of the game at the beginning,” Cougars' team captain Arran Kerrigan stated. “This is for the benefit of the Jet FM players who haven’t played ringette before and for the spectators who are new to the sport. There will also be players from the Junior ringette team in the crowd to answer any questions as the game is in progress.”

When asked for a prediction on the game, Andrew Davis from Jet Fm said, "We are going to get killed." Chuckling, he added, "But it's going to be fun and the Cougar's should be careful... they haven't seen the old split ring play."
