The call is going out to all boys and girls between the ages of nine and 18, who want to improve their basketball skills.

Registration is now open for the 41st Annual Comox Valley Summer Basketball Camp, dubbed by organizers as 鈥渢he best basketball camp west of the Mainland,鈥� to run July 2-5 at GP Vanier School.

The camp for young boys and girls, Grade 4-7, will be led by Blake Tobacca, a former player at Vanier and at Vancouver Island University, the current head coach at Mark Isfeld Secondary, and an outstanding youth instructor.

The head coaches for those going into Grades 8-12 will be Larry Street of G.P. Vanier, and Tristan Carriere-Bela of Olds College, and a former Towhee.

Coach street has 50 years of camp experience. He has taken numerous teams to provincial championships in their respective schools, and is outstanding at teaching the basic fundamentals of the game. Street has coached more than 115 teams and has had 65 former players play university or college basketball - more than any other high school coach in the province. He is also a long-time NCCP course conductor who certifies coaches in various sports.

鈥淲e will again try to keep up the long-standing tradition of creating skilled athletes with an emphasis on fundamentals,鈥� said Street of the upcoming camp. 鈥淭hat tradition has been displayed by decades of great players from Courtenay, Cumberland, and Comox, as well as outlying regions of the Comox Valley.鈥�
