ONLINE FIRST CVAC Sharks have new year off to busy start

Comox Valley Aquatic Club Sharks swimmers have had a busy start to 2011. They've already attended two swim meets: The Vancouver Island Regional Championships in Victoria and the Winter Festival Dual Meet right here in the Comox Valley.

THE COMOX VALLEY Aquatic Club Sharks have got the new year off to a busy start.

Comox Valley Aquatic Club Sharks swimmers have had a busy start to 2011. They've already attended two swim meets: The Vancouver Island Regional Championships in Victoria and the Winter Festival Dual Meet right here in the Comox Valley.

The VIR Championships were attended by Juliana Bartemucci, Brooke Lamoureux, Cheyenne, Kaitlin and Mikhaila Lindsay, Ben and Emma Neufeld, Megan

Rousseau, Jordyn Ryan and Gabrielle Wolfe.

"One hundred per cent best times were achieved by

Brooke and Gabrielle who each earned six gold medals," a CVAC spokesperson said. "In all, 32 finals swims scored enough to put the Sharks into a comfortable fourth-place finish out of all clubs on the Island.

"Other medalists included the 11-12 girls relay who won bronze in the 200 medley (Cheyenne, Jordyn, Mikhaila, and Kaitlin) and Ben Neufeld who added five gold and a silver to his ever-growing list of accomplishments. Well done Sharks," the spokesperson said.

The last meet in January was the Winter Festival Dual Meet between Comox Valley Aquatic Club and the Campbell River Killer Whales.

"Great fun was had by all and the results were good too," the CVAC spokesperson said. "This meet was geared toward our younger swimmers and those wishing to make new qualifying times."

Swimmers making 100 per cent best times included: Benjamin Arksey, Ethan Ashley, Griffin Botsford, Natasha D'Aoust, Geoffrey Hynds and Caleb Webb. A number of swimmers generating double digit improvements include: Ethan Ashley (200 IM), Natasha D'Aoust (50 breast), Joshua Dolman (100 fly, 100 breast), Nyomi Guay (50 breast), Geoffrey Hynds (100 breast), Ben Neufeld (200 fly), and Meghan Perry (100 fly).

"Special congratulations go to Drew Kuhnert who broke

the 1:00 barrier for the 100 freestyle posting a 59.36 - way to go, Drew," the spokesperson said.
