Andrea Lee of Black Creek collected her second medal at the 2011 Canada Winter Games, and this time it was gold.

Lee was part of the Team BC cross-country relay team that took first place in the Saturday event. Lee won bronze last Thursday in the 10K Classic Mass Start event. The Strathcona Nordic Ski Club member now trains at the National Development Team Training Centre in Thunder Bay. At the Games she was reunited with her former coach, SNSC coach Dave Battison, who was in Halifax coaching the B.C. Nordic team.

Team BC ended two weeks of competition in Halifax on Sunday with one of its best medal counts at a Canada Winter Games. Their 88 medals (28 gold, 29 silver and 30 bronze) are 12 more than at the last Winter Games in 2007.

That put B.C. in third place in the medal count, won by Quebec with 137. B.C. also placed third in the flag point standings, which was won by Ontario.

Team BC had one of its strongest weeks ever at a Canada Games during Week One, which included freestyle gold medals by Cassie Sharpe of Comox and Mt. Washington Freestyle Club member Max Heard of Duncan.

During Week Two B.C.’s female cross-country skiers finished in first place compared to fourth place in 2007.
