Ladies League concludes busy season of curling

The Ladies League of the Comox Valley Curling Club concluded the season with their annual Club Championship, held March 22-2.

In the final single knockout game, Sandra Gallaway skipped her team of third Liz Ellis third, second Mary Ellen Werner and lead Elaine Starchuk against the Robson rink with skip Colleen, third Linda Farrell, second Bonnie Seeley and lead Lindsay Sparkes (who skipped the team). It was a great match with Gallaway  claiming the club championship.

As well, the three sub leagues declared a winner based on a point system accumulated throughout the season. The Tuesday 4:45 League was won by the Sandra Gallaway rink with the Holden rink second. In the Tuesday 6:45 League the Goodwin rink claimed the most points followed by the Robson rink and the Thursday 4:45 League was won by the Melanie Rait rink with Deb Woods rink second.

The club and league winners were presented with Dean Joanisse prints at the wind-up banquet. "Congratulations to our club/league winners for their great curling and great sportsmanship," a spokesperson said.

Another playdown for the North Island BC Club Challenge was hosted by the Comox Valley Curling Club on March 18-20 with teams participating from throughout Region 10. The Goodwin rink, in an undefeated sweep, won the right to represent the North Island at the Pacific International Cup which will be held at the Richmond Curling Club, April 20-24.

This is an international event with invitations to participate extended to curling associations/clubs from Alaska, Arizona, Australia, British Columbia, California, China, Chinese Taipei, Colorado, Iceland, Idaho, Illinois, Japan, Korea, Michigan, Minnesota, New Zealand, North Dakota, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin and Yukon. "It was a great curling season with fun social events and a super 'fun in the sun' bonspiel.
