The inaugural Maple Park 3 on 3 basketball tournament Sept. 2 was a resounding success with more than 100 boys and girls participating.
Teams were organized by grade level: K-4, Grade 5-8, Girls Grade 9-12, Boys Grade 9-12 and 19-plus. The tournament began with round-robin play within each division. It was continuous action with two basketball courts being used at the same time. Each game was five minutes in duration and had a referee. They were highly competitive and intense.
The intensity level rose a notch in the playoff games. Parents and fans were treated to exciting, continuous action that the game of 3 on 3 provides. It was a great day of basketball with sportsmanship displayed by all participants. Congratulations to the following champions of each division:
Grade K-4: 3 Team Amigos and Rainbow Raptors (tie between teams): Van Blake, Bevan Ansley, Sonny Kitto, Jake Greaves, Sienna Baroutis, Cyrus Baroutis and Quiniso Ference
Coed Grade 5-8: Team Brick City Bowlers: Max Lloyd, Andrew Munger and Leo Blake
Girls Grade 9-12: HAM: Alyssa Erikson, Myah Erikson, and Harriette Cunningham
Boys Grade 9-12: Josh鈥檚 Team: Coen Leopkey-Johnson, DJ Carino and Josh Taylor
19+ : Slip N鈥� Slide: Darrrell Dacurih, Chase Hobenshield, Bradden Kiley and Cory Laurent

Note: Registration for Steve Nash Youth Basketball can now be completed online. The 10-week program runs Sept. 20 鈥� Nov. 22. Coed K-Grade2, Coed Grades 3-4, Boys Grades 5-6-7, Girls Grades 5-6-7, Girls 8-12, Boys 8-12.
