The dust from 25 dodgeball teams playing 125 games over the course of the winter has settled, leaving three new teams with Comox Valley Sports & Social Club championships to show for their body of work.
It was Daj MaBallz winning the 鈥楢鈥� Tier final and the Grease Balls rising to the top in the 鈥楤鈥� Tier of the Wednesdays intermediate league, while the Young Guns polished off an unbeaten season to take the recreational Mondays final earlier this week at the Cumberland Jr. gym.
Daj MaBallz had upset the defending champion Thundercats in the semifinals to advance and face the previously undefeated Maniacs in the final. The fast-paced, athletic game saw Daj MaBallz emerge victorious by a 10-6 count.
Meanwhile, the 鈥楤鈥� Tier final also saw its share of upsets, as the Grease Balls and Super Attack Squad both pulled off wins over higher seeds to face each other in the final. The Grease Balls, who barely avoided a winless season in the fall, finished their remarkable turnaround with a 10-4 victory to win the tier.
Rounding out the 鈥楢鈥� Tier, the Thundercats beat the Ballistics 10-9 to take third place and the Blue Balls won 10-5 over the Nads to take fifth place. And in the 鈥楤鈥� Tier, the Chuck 鈥楴 Duckers won 10-6 over the Lucky Chasers for third, while the Tea Bags beat the Skull Crushers 10-7 for fifth.
On the recreational side, the Young Guns reeled off a 10-2 victory over the Bayonet Parrots in the final for first, while third place went to Ten Phat Kidz with a win over the Ballcoholics. Shoot to Thrill took fifth place by a 10-6 count over the Incrediballs, the Chuck 鈥楴 Duckers won 10-9 over the Lucky Chasers for seventh, the Expendaballs won 10-3 over the Blazing Balls for ninth, and Team Excellence scored the 11th place spot in a 10-5 win over Mount then Wash.
