Evolution girls soccer team wins Island Cup match

The U18 Comox Valley Evolution soccer team blanked Oceanside 4-0 Sunday in the first round of the Island Cup.

Maddy Bams gave the Evolution (sponsored by Chatters Hair Salon) a 1-0 lead with a breakaway goal up the middle and minutes later Stephanie Devonshire made it 2-0 as she launched a ball from the left wing that dropped over the keeper's head into the back corner of the net. Most of the play remained in Oceanside's end but no more goals were scored.

In the second half the Evolution made many quick rushes and well-placed passes which resulted in numerous scoring opportunities. One such play was when Jillian Paton made a fast rush up the left wing and made a beautiful crossover to Brittany Tilley in front of the net. Tilley fired a shot that bounced off the keeper and out to Natalie Delange, who one-timed it into the net.

Minutes later, Paton made another crossover  in front of the net to Chelsea Tancon, who tapped it home to make the final score 4-0.

The Evolutions' next action is April 17 in Vancouver at the ̨ÍåMMÂãÁÄÊÒ Cup semifinals. Following that they'll be playing the Island Cup final in Victoria.
