Comox-raised Olympic champion freestyle skier Cassie Sharpe has been named to the BC Sports Hall Of Fame Class of 2024.

Sharpe honed her skills on the hills of Mount Washington, ultimately reaching the top of the podium in 2018 at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. She just missed defending her crown at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, setting for silver.

Sharpe is a two-time Crystal Globe winner as FIS World Cup overall champion in halfpipe freestyle skiing (2018, 2019), a two-time silver medalist in halfpipe at FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships (2015 Kreischberg, 2019 Utah), and has won five career medals in superpipe at the Winter X Games: two gold (2016 Oslo, 2019 Aspen), one silver (2021 Aspen), and two bronze (2018 Aspen, 2020 Aspen).

Sharpe is one of two Vancouver Islanders to be inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame for 2024. Swimmer Ryan Cochrane from Victoria – Canada’s most decorated male swimmer of all time - was also selected.

Other athlete inductees into the Class of 2024 include:

• Richard Zokol, golf

• Amand Asay, baseball (posthumously)

• Justin Morneau, baseball

The 1998 Langley Little League All-Stars Boys Baseball was inducted into the Team Category, and the 1921-22 Vancouver Amazons women’s hockey team was inducted in the Pioneer Category.

Beverley Felske (ringette), Dr. Bob McCormack (sports medicine) and Wayne Norton (baseball) were all inducted under the Builders/Coaches banner, and longtime Vancouver sports broadcaster Don Taylor was inducted in the Media Category.
