The Comox Valley Glacier Kings lost on the road and won at home over the weekend, to improve to 4-3-0-0 in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League play.
The Yetis dropped a 3-1 decision to the Peninsula Panthers in North Saanich on Friday, Sept. 22, then scored four unanswered goals to beat the defending league champion Oceanside Generals 5-2 at the Comox Valley Sports Centre on Saturday.
Friday night’s game was a come-from-behind victory for the Panthers, as the Glacier Kings opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period.
Tanner Gould scored his team-leading sixth goal in seven games to give the Yetis a lead, nine minutes into the game.
The Panthers responded with two in the second (Lucas Prewada and Carson Harris) and one in the third (Malcolm Fletcher) for the victory.
Dylan Dykstra made 41 saves in a losing effort for the Glacier Kings.
Comox Valley dominated the final two periods of Saturday’s game, outshooting the Generals 34-15 in that span, and 42-20 overall.
Brigham Nigh opened the scoring for the Glacier Kings, 11 minutes into the contest, but goals by Brayden Ross and Cole Campbell, 96 seconds apart gave the Generals a 2-1 lead after the first.
It was all Comox Valley from there.
Alex Bend tied it at the 12-minute mark of the second, and Aodhan Hildebrandt gave the Yetis the lead for good, six minutes into the third.
Tynan Klein-Beekman and Logan Furlong added power-play goals to seal the win.
Klein-Beekman added two assists for a three-point game, and Ryder Lally made 19 saves for the victory.
The Glacier Kings host the 1-4-0-0 Port Alberni Bombers on Friday night at the Comox Valley Sports Centre. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
They travel to Kerry Park to take on the 4-3-0-0 Islanders Saturday evening.
