The Comox Valley Glacier Kings started the second half of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League season perfectly, before running into a hot goalie over the weekend.

The Glacier Kings hosted the Alberni Bombers on Friday night, winning 2-0 with Ryder Lally posting a 22-save shutout.

In a classic goaltenders’ duel, Comox Valley opened the scoring with less than eight minutes remaining in the first.

Logan Furlong set up Joe Weber for what proved to be the game-winning goal.

Bombers goalie Dylan Dykstra was sensational, as the Yetis nearly doubled Port Alberni’s shot total, with 42.

The insurance goal was scored with 55 seconds remaining in the game, and Dykstra on the bench for an extra attacker.

This time it was Weber setting up Furlong for the goal.

The Glacier Kings hosted the Westshore Wolves on Saturday night right, and picked up right where they left off Friday, with relentless offensive output.

The Yetis outshot the Wolves 54-24, but backed by a 50-save performance from Graham Brown, Westshore won the game 6-4.

The game was a back-and-forth affair, with the Wolves taking a 1-0 lead into the dressing room after the first period.

The Glacier Kings outscored the Wolves 3-1 in the second with three power-play goals to take a 3-2 lead, only to be stalled by Brown in the third.

Westshore scored two straight, to take a 4-3 lead, before Brigham Nye’s seventh of the season tied the game for the fourth time.

Caden Copeland gave the Wolves a 5-4 lead with less than five minutes remaining and Dawson Smith iced the game for the Wolves with an empty-net insurance marker.

Furlong had two of power-play goals for the Glacier Kings, with Ivan Kedrov also scoring on the power play.

Yetis Alex Bend and Ryley Callan had two assists apiece, while teammates Audhan Hildebrandt and Lare Pahtayken also had helpers in the game.

Ryan Knight took the loss, allowing five goals on 24 shots.

Comox Valley travels to Parksville to play the Oceanside Generals on Friday night, before returning to the Sports Centre to host the Lake Cowichan Kraken on Saturday. Game time is 7:30.
