With one game remaining in the regular season, the Comox Valley Glacier Kings have locked up home-ice advantage for the first round of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League playoffs.
Their first-round opponent is still to be determined, however.
The Glacier Kings have done what they can, entering the playoffs on a bit of a heater. They’ve won four straight games, guaranteeing they finish second in the VIJHL North, with 60 points.
They will play the third seed, but who that third seed is will have to wait until at least Thursday.
The Oceanside Generals (55) are currently one point ahead of the Kerry Park Islanders (54), who will be part of the North Division playoffs based on geographical location, after both they and the Peninsula Panthers advanced via wild card positions. (If two teams from one division take both wild card slots, the team closest to the other division, geographically speaking, will join that division’s playoffs, and will be seeded based on their league point total.) The Generals have two games remaining. The Islanders have one.
The Generals can sew up third place in the North with a victory over the lowly Nanaimo Buccaneers, who have won but a single game this season.
Meanwhile, the Glacier Kings wrap up their regular season on Saturday, with a home game against the Lake Cowichan Kraken. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m. The playoff schedule has yet to be posted.
