The Comox Valley Raiders Football Club has wrapped up another successful flag football season with more than 160 players - a record high – ranging from 6 to 16 years old. Practices happen once a week with games played every Saturday at Woodcote Field.

“Flag football has really taken off in the Comox Valley in recent years,” said Comox Valley Raiders Youth Football Club president Joanne Lewis. “It’s the perfect introduction to the game of football. It is fun and fast-paced, yet a great opportunity to learn skills and grasp a better understanding of the game. Games are all played locally and in-house so no travel! Whether you’ve played for years, or this is your first season giving it a try, there’s a place for everyone on the teams. This season we welcomed over 20 volunteer coaches and welcomed our senior players to give back their time to the younger divisions in a referee role.”

There was also a new program this spring, designed specifically for those who would rather cheer the players on, than take to the field themselves.

“An exciting addition to the Comox Valley Raiders this spring was their Sideline Cheer Squad with 40 youth currently in the program,” said Lewis. “The Cheer Squad practises weekly and they show off their stunts, skills and enthusiasm on the sidelines during games adding a new level of excitement to the football field. The Cheer grande finale for the season will be showcased during the Courtenay Canada Day Parade”

Registration is currently open and filling up fast for the Fall Flag & Tackle football and Fall Cheer Squad programs. More details can be found at .
