The Ecole Mark R. Isfeld Senior Boys Volleyball team took home bronze from a tournament at Camosun College earlier this month.

There were 16 high school teams in the tournament with the Isfeld Boys being placed in a pool with Lambrick Park, Duncan Christian and St Michaels University. The boys finished their pool in second place, which set them up for a cross-over game against Royal Bay. The team won in three sets, thanks to some strong passing and serving. They were on to the quarter finals in a match up against Victoria High School. There, they won in two straight sets. Next up was a popular match up against AAA Claremont High School.

The team had a bit of a disappointing first set, going down 21-5. However, they fought back, losing 25-12. They regained their composure during the second set, but were unable to get back on top, losing with a very close 24-26.

With heads held high, they went into the bronze medal game agsint Mt. Douglas (another AAA team), and redeemed themselves with a three set match win, bringing home the bronze medal.'

"Tournaments are a fantastic opportunity for significant improvement in a short period of time!  The adjustments to different teams was impressive. Most exciting was the realization that we are very close in skill level to some very strong teams. I hope the boys are motivated to work hard and improve even more." said coach Esther Bayles.

This year's Senior Tournament team is coached by Brian McAskill, Bayles, Kevin East, Kurt Stushnoff and Arlen Kanary. The team consists of: Carson East, Torr Robertson, Daxin Mouldenhauer, Bryson Gailloux, Sam Schum, Wyatt Kugler, Kiefer Stushnoff, Jonah Kanary, Shervin Singh, Shay Devine, Nate Boen, Galix Farvacque, Win Nitithanatkul, Finn Schwarz.

Next up, the boys head to the UBC tournament on Sept. 20-21. Then they go to Oak Bay and VIU in October, followed by Delta in November. Isfeld will be hosting the North Zone Championships on Nov. 8 and 9.

"Be sure to come out and watch them play on their home court!" a release from the team says.

Island Championships will be at Lambrick Park in November, followed by provincials at the end of that month in Vernon, if the team qualifies at Island Championships.
