Kegs took a crafty turn for cats at the Comox Valley Curling Club in late March, as the Battle of the Breweries Keg Curling raised thousands for a Valley cat organization.
The club raised $2,000 for Cat Advocates Teaching & Saving Society March 22-24 through fundraising activities over the weekend, including donations at the door, $5 for anyone in the building to enter the keg curling draw to the button contest, 50/50 draws during the Gladstone Brewing Pros and Joes Funspiel, donated beer from Ace, Beachfire, and Land & Sea breweries and 50 cents from every draft beer sold over the weekend.
Keith Parry, general manager of the curling club said in addition, Hoyne Brewing and the club ran a promotion for an additional 50 cents from every Hoyne beer sold for the entire month of March to be donated, which brought in an additional $520.
“Cumulative funds raised for Cat Advocates Teaching and Saving Society is $2,520,” he added.
“All breweries that took part in the Battle of the Breweries Keg Curling event played a huge role in bringing their friends and fans out and for having such a spirited good time. Ace, Beachfire, Cumberland, Gladstone, Hoyne, Land & Sea, Mount Arrowsmith, and Rad breweries all took part in the event, not to mention the Lucky Village Karaoke party that followed.”
As for the Battle of the Breweries champion? That title went to Gladstone Brewing.
