Canadian snowshoer 4th at Special Olympics World Games

Vernon's Danielle Pechet narrowly missed a bronze medal at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, Italy.

Vernon's Danielle Pechet came fourth in her first medal race at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, Italy.

Pechet was fourth in the F01 Women's 800 metre snowshoe race, finishing in 4 minutes 59.67 seconds. She was less than 19 seconds behind Nga Man Ha of Hong Kong for the bronze medal.

Pechet took nearly 30 seconds off her preliminary qualifying time in the race Thursday, March 13.

Canadian teammates Annick Leger and Meghan Josling were first-second in the medal event. Leger won gold in 4:01.57, while Josling picked up silver in 4:34.62.

Pechet will have two more chances for medals in Turin.

She'll join Canadian teammates Catherine Partlow, Rebecca Delaney, and Susan Miko in the F01 Women's 4 x 100m relay Friday. Pechet will compete in the F01 Women's 400m race Saturday.
