Cache of medals for Comox Valley athletes at BC Summer Games

Locals combine for 10 medals, including six gold

Comox Valley athletes did their community proud at the 2018 BC Summer Games in the Cowichan Valley over the weekend.

Eleven local athletes brought home medals at the games, including seven golds.

The local efforts contributed to the Vancouver Island-Central Coast Zone 6 team finishing first overall in the standings.

Ally Howard and Anja Leikermoser of Comox teamed up to win gold in the girls 420 sailing final, while Abby Duncan, of Comox, as well as Courtenay residents Olivia Jean and Sydney Sunderland, were on the gold medal-winning Zone 6 girls’ soccer team.

On the lacrosse field, Jordan Vincent (Comox) was member of the silver medal-winning Vancouver Island team.

Sticking with team sports, Gracie Walls helped the Vancouver Island girls’ volleyball team win a bronze medal.

In the pool, Graham Tattrie, of Comox, also brought home a gold medal, in the 4x50 freestyle relay event.

In athletics, Victoria Porcher of Courtenay was a member of the silver medal-winning Zone 6 girls’ 4 x 100m relay team, while Chantal Mordor of Courtenay won bronze in the girls’ hammer.

And Max Porcher, of Lazo, won gold in the Special Olympics male long jump competition, with a leap of 4.82 metres.

In all, 22 Comox Valley athletes competed at the 2018 BC Summer Games.

Basketball: Myles Douglas, Ashlyn Smart, Emma Warren

Lacrosse: Jordan Vincent

Sailing: Ally Howard, Anja Leikermoser

Soccer: Olivia Jean, Sydney Sunderland, Abby Duncan, Logan Williams

Swimming: Graham Tattrie, Jordan Raum

Triathlon: Jade Blouin-Comeau

Volleyball: Gracie Walls.
