The Comox Valley Breakers women's hockey team travelled to Cowichan Lake for the first game of the month to face off against the Fuller Lake Shooters, where they recorded a loss, but Stef Hart (Thomas Hart Contracting) tallied her first hat trick of the season.

The following night the Breakers hosted the Nanaimo Black Ice in an exciting back-and-forth match. Hart opened the scoring with a wrist shot over the goalie's glove, assisted by Tammy Rodgers and Breana Morgan. Nanaimo answered right back 13 seconds later, only to have Jess Sekulich (Expedia CruiseShipCenters) net one in off a face-off win by Jamie McCance. Hart then closed the scoring in the first period with a backhand shot assisted by Morgan.

Halfway through the second, Sekulich rushed end-to-end and finished with a slap shot that went corner-post and in over the goalie’s shoulder. Rodgers netted the insurance goal, assisted by Haley Humphrey, clinching a 5-4 win.

The Breakers took the ice the next weekend for a home game against the Port Alberni Panthers. For the first time ever the Breakers captain, Sekulich, recorded a natural hat trick, netting the team's first three goals of the night.

Her first came from a wrist shot that went post and in, assisted by Humphrey. Her second was a slap shot that went weak side which was assisted by rookies, Melissa Furlotte and Kelly Sveinbiornson. And finally the last was another slap shot from the slot assisted by Hart.

The Breakers took the lead in the third period with two more goals coming from Heather Smith, assisted by Sekulich and Barb Callander, and the last from Teresa Fisher (Mike Fisher Realty) assisted by Maria Sanchez and Humphrey.

In their last game of the month, the Breakers played the Courtenay Whalers, where they fell 5-2, on a few weak goals by the opposition. Sekulich recorded the only two unassisted goals during the game.

The Breakers host Parksville on Saturday night at Glacier Gardens and will travel down island to play the Panthers in Port Alberni on Sunday.

"The Breakers thank their sponsors, Boston Pizza, Canadian Tire, Mike Fisher of Royal LePage in the Comox Valley, North Island Urology and Quality Foods, for all of their generosity and support," a team spokesperson said.
