B.C.’s Bains to make his debut tonight for his hometown Canucks

The forward has been a standout with Abbotsford Canucks this season

He grew up in Surrey as a Canucks fan, and tonight Arshdeep Bains will wear the team’s jersey for real in a NHL game.

The rookie forward will make his Canucks debut Tuesday (Feb. 20) in Colorado during a 6 p.m. game against the host Avalanche, the team announced.

Late last week Bains was called up by the Canucks from their AHL affililate, Abbotsford Canucks, where he’s starred in recent months and .

“If I get the opportunity, just go out there and play my game and try to help the team win,” Bains said in video posted to the Canucks’ twitter.com account.

He’ll wear jersey #80, and becomes just the fourth Punjabi-heritage player in the league. He still lives in Surrey at his family home.

Bains, 23, was undrafted in both the WHL and NHL, and , in March 2022.

He played his junior hockey with Red Deer Rebels and captured the WHL’s Bobby Clarke Trophy as top scorer in 2021-22 with 112 points in 68 games.
