Oyster River Fire Rescue held its 2019 Annual Awards Banquet on Jan. 25, 2020.
This event honours the members that have completed training and have excelled as firefighters.
The awards portion of the evening began with Comox Valley Regional District Area B director Arzeena Hamir presenting Firefighter Level 2 certificates to Jason Sorensen and Brian McCormick.
Strathcona Regional District Area D director, Brenda Leigh presented Fire Officer 1 certificates to firefighters Chris Chambers and Amanda Voeltz, Fire Officer 2 certificates to Janet Marriott and the Fire Prevention Officer certificate to Fire Chief Bruce Green.
Deputy Chief Chris Murray presented five-year service pins to firefighters Julia Blake, Jeff Caring, Chris Chambers, Joelena Piket, Amanda Voeltz and 10-year service pins to Lieutenants Janet Marriott, Martyn Thomas and Kevin Cowie.
Comox Valley Regional District Area C director Edwin Grieve presented Deputy Chief Chris Murray with his federal 20 Years Exemplary Service medal.
To conclude the awards portion of the evening, Deputy Chief Chris Murray presented firefighter Jason Sorensen with the Rookie of the Year award and Fire Chief Bruce Green and Mrs. Rose Carnie presented firefighter Roger Horobetz with the Bill Carnie Memorial Firefighter of the Year trophy.
